Oranges in 17th and 18th Century Malta

Date 22/11/2018

Inquisitor Fabio Chigi loved the smell and taste of the Maltese orange to the extent that in 1635 he also included orange trees in the newly refurbished garden of the Palace. In a time when the fruit was considered as a luxury in Europe, Malta’s oranges earned a reputation of excellence.

Dr Noel Buttigieg will help us explore the subject, while chef Josef Baldacchino will be conducting a historic cookalong session of ‘composta di bergamotte’, an orange conserve from 1748.

Time: 19:30hrs
